During study

While you're in Australia, your principle focus will be on your studies. But your study experience will be more than just what you learn in class.

Living in a foreign country gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in a language and culture different to your own. This experience will give you a perspective that will be valuable to you in your job and your interpersonal relationships for years to come. Engage with the local community, meet people and socialise – it will broaden your education beyond the classroom and enrich your study experience in Australia.

One of the benefits of studying overseas is being able to mix with people from different backgrounds. If English is not your first language, the practice will help you to improve. If you are an English speaker, you'll take home an Aussie accent to show off to your friends.

Join a sporting club and play with and against the locals. Get involved in amateur theatre or pursue a hobby with a group of like-minded people. Take the opportunity to expand your circle of acquaintances and see how much richer your Australian experience becomes.

Take a break every now and then to get out and visit the uniquely Australian landscape. From city to outback, Australia has locations and wildlife that you won't find anywhere else. You'll find that getting away from your computer for a while and changing your surroundings will refresh you and improve your focus when it's time to get back to your studies.

Don't forget the main reason why you're here. Make sure you apply yourself to your studies and do the work required. Get enough sleep and eat the right foods so that you're in top shape to focus on your work.

If you're having difficulty, talk to somebody about it. If the problem is with your academic work, your education provider has people and procedures to provide assistance. If some other aspect of your Australian experience is troubling you, there are a range of organisations that can offer advice and assistance on almost any subject.

Apply yourself to your studies and make the most of your study breaks and your time in Australia will be something you remember fondly for the rest of your life.
